This comforting and aromatic milk tea is a soothing beverage that blends the bold, malty notes of black tea with the warm, woody spice of cinnamon and the floral sweetness of pure vanilla. It is a perfect, cafe-quality alternative to sugary coffee drinks, offering a clean and elegant flavor profile that is ideal for a quiet morning or a relaxing afternoon treat.

  • Total Time: 20
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup filtered water
1/2 cup whole milk or oat milk
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean, scraped (or 1 tsp pure vanilla extract)
1 black tea bag (Darjeeling or Earl Grey)
1 tsp honey, maple syrup, or stevia
1 star anise (optional)

Instructions

Boil 1 cup of water in a small pot over medium-high heat.
Add the cinnamon stick and scraped vanilla bean seeds to the water.
Reduce heat to low, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Strain the spiced infusion into a mug.
Submerge the black tea bag in the hot spiced water for 3 to 5 minutes.
Stir in the chosen sweetener until fully dissolved.
Stir in the milk and serve warm.

Notes

To preserve the creaminess of the milk, add it at the very end rather than boiling it with the spices. If using vanilla extract instead of a bean, stir it in with the sweetener at the end to prevent the flavor from evaporating during the simmer.
