Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juices
1/3 cup chicken or beef broth
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 pound potato gnocchi
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef with the onion for 7-10 minutes.
Drain excess fat if needed.
Stir in minced garlic and Italian seasoning until fragrant.
Add the diced tomatoes with their juices and the broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
Stir in the heavy whipping cream and the uncooked potato gnocchi.
Cover, reduce the heat to medium, and cook 5 minutes. Uncover, stir, and cook 3 minutes more until the gnocchi are soft and the sauce has thickened. Remove from heat, stir in the Parmesan, and season with salt and pepper before serving.
Notes
Use store-bought shelf-stable or fresh gnocchi for this recipe. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of broth or water until desired consistency is reached. Serve with fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color.
